Hardy and adaptable, mangroves are unique ecosystems that mitigate some of the impacts of climate change: they protect coastlines from erosion and storms, while acting as a filter and a carbon sink.
However, these resilient habitats are themselves vulnerable to the effects of global warming.
Led by mangrove ecologist Kristin Metcalfe, this guided story walk takes you on a fascinating journey into a mangrove forest and out onto the expansive mudflats of Ludmilla Bay. Along the way, you’ll hear from artists, ecologists and writers inspired by mangroves and the tropical environment. Blending science and stories, this walking workshop gives you a deeper appreciation of the significance and beauty of mangroves, and the various challenges they face.
Featuring: Kristin Metcalfe, Tisha Tejaya, Adam Bourke, Kate Mildenhall.
Sturdy footwear is required. Walkers can expect to get sandy and possibly muddy. This event is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
