In a world beset by crises, how can those of us who are parents and caregivers offer solace to our children, as well as ourselves?
What hope can we pass on to the next generation? Writer and new parent, Shele Parker Black, turned to writing letters to her in-utero daughter to help assuage her concerns about the world. This practice resulted in a historical and sentimental artifact that speaks both to the times and the loving intention her daughter was born into.
In this generative one-hour workshop, Shele invites participants to share their hopes and fears for their children’s futures. These reflections can then be transferred into letters of hope addressed to a child – living, longed for, or imagined. Examples, prompts and structures are provided to help participants craft a letter, creating a testament to their love for a child and of their best intentions for the future.
